A Culture of Discipline: The Invisible Force That Turned My Firm Into an Unbreakable Money Machine
A Culture
of Discipline
Talent wins games.
Discipline wins championships.
And empires.
Macfeigh Atunga
CEO & Chief Investment Strategist – The MarketWorth Group

I do not rely on motivation.
I do not rely on genius.
I do not rely on market conditions.
I rely on a system so disciplined that even if I were replaced tomorrow, the machine would keep compounding at 30%+ net for decades.
This is not sexy.
This is not exciting.
This is unstoppable.
If you’re ready to trade chaos for compounding — keep reading.
The Day Discipline Saved My Life (Literally)
February 2022.
We were short the most obvious bubble in history.
Team was euphoric. Clients were cheering.
Then the Fed pivoted overnight.
Our book flipped from +28% to −41% in six weeks.
Every instinct screamed: “Abandon the system. Fight back. Double down.”
Instead, we followed Rule #4 of the MarketWorth Discipline Codex:
“When emotion is maximum, adherence is non-negotiable.”
We did nothing.
We let the risk limits work.
We bled exactly 48% — and no more.
By Q4 2022, that same discipline had us fully deployed at the bottom.
The rebound made us $2.9 billion in realized gains.
Discipline didn’t feel good.
It felt like dying.
Then it paid for several lifetimes.
The Four Pillars of Our Culture of Discipline
1. Disciplined People
We hire only monks in wolf’s clothing — people who get high on process, not adrenaline.
No rockstars. No gurus. Just quiet assassins who show up at 4:30 a.m. because the system demands it.
2. Disciplined Thought
Every thesis must survive the Monday Red Folder gauntlet.
If it can’t be killed in that room, it goes on the field.
No sacred cows. No politics. Just truth.
3. Disciplined Action
Position sizing = math, never mood.
Rebalancing = calendar, never hope.
Risk limits = hardwired into the OMS. You can’t break them even if you want to.
4. The Stop-Doing List
Every quarter we add one thing we will NEVER do again.
Current list: 47 items long.
That negative space is where freedom lives.
The Daily Discipline Ritual That Runs the Firm
Every partner, every day, no exceptions:
• 4:30 a.m. – Gym or 7km run (non-negotiable)
• 5:30 a.m. – Deep work block (no email, no Slack)
• 6:30 a.m. – Red Folder review (what can kill us today?)
• 7:30 a.m. – Position reconciliation (zero tolerance for errors)
• 8:30 a.m. – Execution window opens
Do this for 2,000 days straight and you will look like a wizard to outsiders.
Investment vs Speculation Is 100% Discipline
Speculators act when they feel like it.
Investors act when the system says act — regardless of how they feel.
I wrote the brutal truth here:
Investment vs Speculation: Discipline Wins, Emotion Dies
Frequently Asked Questions
Isn’t this just militaristic control?
No. It’s freedom inside a cage. The cage is tiny (3–5 rules). Inside it, you are free to be a genius.
What if the market regime changes?
The system has a quarterly “question everything” offsite. We change the rules — slowly, deliberately, unanimously.
How do you maintain discipline in bull markets?
That’s when it’s hardest — and most valuable. We have a physical sign in every office: “The market is kind to punish greed early.”
Your Move Right Now
Write down the 3–5 non-negotiable rules that will run your next decade.
Laminate them.
Break one — and you’re out.
